This project was the result of thinking about two challenging: how to best level up my Sketch skills in a short amount of time, and how in this age of overwhelming political news to enable people to feel more connected to their Congressional representatives in Washington. If you’ve ever tried to decipher the Congressional Record you know how obtuse Senate and House records can be. Congress seems to be pretty much in the dark ages when it comes to communications infrastructure, with overloaded phone lines, poorly designed websites, and a general lack of connection with its constituents. Not every political problem can be fixed with technology, but is one that can.
My Voice is a simple app with just a few basic settings that I designed to increase the feeling of connection between constituents and their representatives in Washington, DC. The app’s key feature is push notifications that alert the user when their senators and representative vote on important issues and/or when a vote will be taking place soon (depending on which settings the user has chosen). There is also a feed of upcoming and recent votes and there are profiles of the senators and representatives. The app asks only for the user’s full zip code to determine their representatives. No other information is needed or asked for, to ensure as much privacy as possible and keep the on-boarding as quick and simple as possible.
A quick speculative exercise to develop a simple UI concept.
To create ongoing connection between constituents and their US Congressional representatives.
